The Supermarine Spitfire

The Spitfire had grace and beauty combined with speed, flexibility and firepower. It began operations before the start of World War II and was one of the few pre-war planes to remain in first-line service until the end of the war and beyond. As the war progressed, the Spitfire received heavier armament and more powerful engines. 21554 were built in 24 different versions, including 1220 fitted for aircraft carrier operation.
