Family Reseach Name: William Stead
Date: Monday 16th January 2012 at 10:14 PM
I'm trying to contact an Alan Rainford who posted on this forum back in June 2010.
He mentioned he had a photograph of William Stead who I believe is my great great grandfather, I would be very interested to obtain a copy of the photo. He (Alan) was interested in George Stead, I have a photograph of Sgt George Stead (William's grandson) and details of William Steads marriage to Agnes Anne Stead (Reid) whilst he was in the Army in Ireland. I also have other details for the Stead family in Manchester and Birkenhead going back a couple of generations from William.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Barry

Family Reseach Name: Henry William Roberts
Date: Friday 31st December 2010 at 1:30 AM
I am looking for any information about my grandfather's involvement in WWI. On his marriage certificate (dated 1918) he is noted as being a 2nd Corporal with the Royal Engineers and resident at the Royal Engeineers' Camp, Bungay. His number is noted as: 552990. I have searched so many places I've lost track of where I've found what, if anything. There seem to be many H Roberts' but none that fit him specifically.

I would be grateful for any pointers.

Kind regards
Proteas

Family Reseach Name: Rout
Date: Tuesday 30th November 2010 at 9:26 PM
George Robert Rout joined the Royal Marines at Chatham on 11th November 1829 and taking the oath declared he had been born in STANWAY, Essex giving his age as 18. This could have been actually 16 years. The attestation papers gave no further information.
He served between 1829 - 1849 on the "Iris", "Batt. N C of Spain", "Monarch","Trafalgar","Crocodile", and "Pointiers" earning a grand sum of £13.11s. 1d plus £6.1s.3d whilst on shore. I have a copy of a death notice in 1850 (Ref. Colchester 12.47) giving his age as 39.I have tried all searches and parishes but cannot come up with a birth record for this particular George although there are records stating he was born in Gillingham 1811.but Cityark, Kent parish records on line, fail to mention him anywhere.
Does anyone know where I can direct my search - Seax no good! Essex records office No good either. HELP!

The Rout family lived at Shrub End (then Stanway now within Colchester Borough) around1900-1920. I have mentioned Robert R Rout, youngest son of widow Emma Rout in my latest book `Stanway c1900-c1920, A Community & Its Fallen Soldiers`. The name seems to indicate this may be the same family. Robert Rout died in 1919 of influenza, having just returned from WW1. He was buried with full military honours in All Saints Church, Stanway. As this church was not built until 1845, your George Robert would have been baptised at St. Albrights Church if he was borrn in Stanway. However, I have noticed in my research that some residents living at Bottle End used the nearer church of St. Leonards, Lexden. That would certainly be worth a try. If you are not local, I could look this up for you.

Thank you so much for your reply.Firstly I shall try and obtain a copy of your book. George R Rout was my Gt Gt
Grandfather and I have, with my cousin, created an interesting family tree as well as obtaining young Roberts' army papers. The family are facinating and held on to many secrets; some now unravelling.I am waiting for microfische copies of Stanway bmds etc(Records Office) and hope they will shed light on George. However I would be very grateful for whatever information turns up about our ancestors and therefore would appreciate your help.
Sincerely
Emily
